These may include an update and reboot for the Microsoft installer, and another update and reboot for a change to the ODBC components being used on your PC. 5. The ODBC components used in BAR-ONE 6 are different versions than those used in BAR-ONE v5.0 and earlier. You may find that BAR-ONE v5.0 and earlier encounter difficulty connecting to databases if BAR-ONE 6 is installed. 6. You must have local Administrative rights on your PC to install many software packages. If you encounter errors during installation, please check with your systems administrator to ensure you have adequate rights to perform the installation. ****************************** Tips and Advice: 1. BAR-ONE 6 supports the Real Time Clock that is available in selected Zebra printers. You can only use this feature if your printer has that option installed. To configure the software to use the Real Time Clock, create a Date variable, right-click over the variable and select the option "Setting according to the printer" on the "Options" tab. 2. BAR-ONE 6 defaults to metric units of measure, but can also use inches. The units of measure can be changed. To do this, go to the TOOLS menus, choose "Options" and then change the "Unit" setting on the "Display" tab. 3. By default, BAR-ONE 6 displays Font sizes in the selected units of measure (see Tip #2). If the units of measure are metric, then Font sizes will initially be shown in metric sizes. If the units of measure are inches, then Fonts will initially be shown in inches. You can display Fonts in point sizes by selecting "points" on the Character tab of any Text or Bar Code fields on your label. You will have to first create a Text or Bar code field to be able to alter the unit of measure used for Fonts. 4. When setting up a TCP/IP direct printer, the default UDP port is 9100. Most print servers, including the Zebra ZNet II, connect through UPD port 9100. Some print servers do make use of other UDP ports to handle TCP/IP communication. Please check with the manufacturer of your print server if you are unsure about which UDP port to enter. 5. The Help system contains a function called "Jump to URL". When using this function to access a web site, you must enter the entire address - meaning that you have to enter "http://support.zebra.com/" instead of just "www.zebra.com". However, after you enter the first address with the "http://" you can then enter other addresses without having to type in "http://". For example you can type in just "support.zebra.com/" If you close the Help system and then restart it, you will have to type the entire address again 6. BAR-ONE 6 does not present a full list of font sizes in the tool bar. If you want a size that is not listed you must double-click on the field and alter the "Height" setting found on the Character tab. 7. The Help text, User's Guides and this file describe features available in the full BAR-ONE line of products. BAR-ONE Platinum is the most fully featured version of the software. Other versions, such as Lite, Desktop and Pro-Plus offer a subset of the features found in Platinum. 8. The Graphic file formats known to work most consistently are .BMP and .JPG files. Other graphic file types can use encoding file variations which may not be compatible with BAR-ONE. 9. When using BAR-ONE Network, it is necessary to have a License Manager running on the Key Server in order to validate users as they start the label design software. If you choose to install the License Manager on a workstation running Windows NT or 2000, it will automatically be installed as a service entitled SLicense. If the computer on which you are installing the Key Server is running Windows 95, 98, or ME, you will need to launch the License Manager called License.exe in order to validate users as they start the label design software. See the Network Information Guide for full details. 7. The BAR-ONE 6 Label Design package and Font Downloader make reference to several different types of memory locations on the printer. Zebra printers come with a variety of memory options. These include DRAM, EPROM, PCMCIA, FLASH, SOCKET FLASH and BATTERY BACKED UP RAM. Depending on which printer model you have, most Zebra printers can print a Printer Configuration Label which will show you the letter designations(s) assigned to your printer's memory. The following chart is intended help you match up the memory locations on your printer with those offered in BAR-ONE 6.0. EPROM (E:) PCMCIA (B:) FLASH (E:) DRAM (R:) BUILT IN (R:) SOCKET FLASH (B:) BATTERY BACKED UP RAM (B: or E:) NOTE: Not all memory options are available on all printers. ****************************** Changes for version 6.04: 1. When setting up printer drivers in BAR-ONE 6 on Windows NT or Windows 2000 Operating Systems, please de-select the "Direct Access" option for parallel or serial communication ports. Some PC's do not support this option while using Win NT or Win 2000. 2. When using the "Import" feature, you may find that some fields require adjustment or alteration after being imported. Please refer to the "Import.txt" file located in the BAR-ONE 6 directory for details on this feature. 3. When converting BAR-ONE v4.3 or v5.0 labels files for use in BAR-ONE 6 you may find that some fields require adjustment or alteration after being converted. Please refer to the "Convert.txt" file located in the BAR-ONE 6 directory for details on this feature. 4. When creating FORM variables the following names are reserved: "@LABNAME","@SERIALQTY","@PRINTQTY" "@LABELCPY","@PAGECPY","@INTERCUT" "LABNAME","SERIALQTY","PRINTQTY" "LABELCPY","PRINTCOPY","PAGECPY", "INTERINC", "INTERCUT". 5. There are no HELP entries describing the following bar codes: LOGMARS, Micro PDF 417,2/5 MATRIX Eur, 2/5 MATRIX Jap, CODE16K, or GERMAN POST. 6. There is no graphic bar code support for Maxicode in this release of the software. 7. Changing the definition of the table lookup can cause the related field on the label to become empty. To re-populate the field with data, go back in to the table lookup variable and reselect the "Select Table" entry". 8. The printer drivers offer an option to "Reload images". This button will (at print time) reset the printer’s graphical memory and perform an image load. Please note that this setting is not persistent. Choosing this option will only reload the next time the label is printed. If you wish to reload the images again, you will need to choose this option again. 9. If you create an OLE object and display it as a link, then go to View>Orientation and choose a 90 degree rotation the icon will become a box with diagonal lines. If you change the Orientation back to 0 degree, the icon will change back to normal. 10. The 96XiIII printer driver does not print at 1 ips in this release. Setting the driver to 1 ips will result in a print speed of 2 ips. The 90Xi/XiII 600 DPI driver can be used if a speed of 1 ips is needed. 11. The installation of BAR-ONE 6 may cause setup.exe files that are located in the C:\Temp directory to run. To eliminate this issue it may be necessary to clear any files named "setup.exe" from the C:\Temp directory. 12. When working with Access tables in the Database Manager, the program will not allow you to have the same data more than once in the primary key field. REMEMBER TO UPGRADE: http://www.zebra.com/barone
